When you learn about asbestos, there are many different aspects you will have to take the time to get to know. Although you may know all about the fibrous material it is made of and the six different types of asbestos, there is a lot more to asbestos that you will need to know to become a full asbestos expert. When you own a home that was made before asbestos stopped being used as much in construction, you could be at risk for asbestos exposure. Asbestos exposure is also definitely not something that you want. Asbestos exposure could lead to a long time struggle with one of the many diseases that it causes. Since you obviously do not want this to happen to you, you need to avoid asbestos at all costs. But how exactly can you do this? Well, the first step to avoiding asbestos is knowing where asbestos might be lurking in your life. There are multiple different locations that you may be able to find asbestos in your life. Asbestos usually starts out its life being mined in Russia, China, or previously America. After getting mined out, it is used in one of the many products that it can be found in. 

One of the most common places for asbestos to be found is in insulation. Asbestos, although dangerous, is an excellent insulator. It is heat resistant and fire retardant. Obviously, this is a very good thing to have for insulation. Since it was such a good insulator, it was commonly used for insulation. That is, it was used for insulation until we found out just how dangerous and deadly asbestos can be. Nevertheless, asbestos can still be found in a lot of insulation from old houses to this day. Often when you are purchasing an old home, getting asbestos testing is recommended to make sure the insulation is not contaminated with asbestos.

Another product that you will likely find asbestos in if it is particularly old is in heat resistant fabrics. As we mentioned before, asbestos is actually heat resistant. As you can see, this leads to it being an excellent heat resistant material to use for fabrics. The fibrous nature of asbestos helps with that a lot as well. It is flexible enough to use as a material in fabric. This is obviously extremely dangerous as well, though.
